Notes on MDZS chapter 1.4, present timeline
This post was too long, so I'm cutting doing it in parts. This covers the present timeline stuff, or chapters 11 and 12 of the webnovel. I'm actually still not done reading chapter 3 because I'm comparing so many versions as I read.
Anyway!

- In Spanish it sounds like they were all there for 3 months, this has always been super ambiguous but just from the amount of stuff that happened (we know Wei Wuxian was in detention for a month), I think it's clear Wei Wuxian stayed for 3 months, the rest longer. Chinese: “他少年时曾和其他家族的子弟被送到蓝家求学过三个月”

- Would have been so great if it was ‘Lan Jingyi yelled, “Stop yelling!”’ (that would have been very Nynaeve of him)
- Lan Xichen afable y risueño
- Lan Xichen calling out Lan Wangji for being rude to a guest with the silencing spell!
- Lan Wangji says to take him to the jingshi, text says Wei Wuxian doesn’t know what that refers to and that the juniors look at each other, then explains what the jingshi is.
- Wei Wuxian brought emperor’s smile from “Gusu city” (not Caiyi Town)
- “他酒量极好，酒瘾又大” high tolerance, and not merely likes alcohol but actual addiction

- 魏无羡虽没挨过戒鞭的打，但是江澄挨过。他穷尽心思也无法使这耻辱的印记淡化一分，因此魏无羡绝不会记错这种伤痕。Spanish says Wei Wuxian tried to find a way to fade marks and no master how hard he tried couldn’t do it. Chinese just says “he tried”. Since both 7S and Norma have the line about Wei Wuxian wracking his brain, I’m wondering if the version they’re translating from has that extra line
- Text says if the offense is so unforgivable to be whipped so many as Lan Wangji, why didn’t they just kill him to purge such evil from the sect
- Again: I love how jingyi yells in the cloud recesses
- On first read I liked wx, but honestly this time, knowing Lan Wangji knows this is the guy he loved so much but then seeing him do shit like drag Wei Wuxian to the jingshi by the scruff of the neck, using the silencing spell on him/threatening to do it… I just no longer see the appeal. How is this dynamic a great love?
