Notes on MDZS chapter 1.3

I actually finished this chapter some time ago but hadn't published these. Anyway, now that I'm a little way in, I doubt they'll be of interest to anyone but me. I'm mostly jotting down things I find interesting or think I'll want to remember. I'm also comparing the spanish to 7S, ExR (sometimes others) and the Chinese as it currently is in JJWXC.

• Wei Wuxian assumes Suibian is hanging on some clan leader’s wall as trophy
• Wei Wuxian desecrating tombs as he makes his way away from mo manor because he “needs to find a ghost general to be his servant”
• Podía decirse que, allá donde se mentaba a Wei, la cosa se calentaba. Si un día hubiera que escoger al cultivador con la popularidad más duradera entre todos los clanes, sin duda él tendría todas las de ganar.
• Compass of evil is not perfect, he was starting to work more on it before he died
• “De todos los clanes, si hay alguno al que es mejor no tener en contra es el clan Jiang y, de todos los Jiang, si hay alguien al que es mejor no ofender es a Jiang Cheng.” the cultivators coming back from dafan

• Como vencedor de la tortuosa guerra librada entre los clanes durante más de cien años, el clan Jin de Lanling presidía sobre todos los demás y su líder se arrogaba el título de «cultivador jefe». What 100 year war. Does this mean the Wen have been at it for a hundred years? Is WRH 100 years old or is this a generational thing?
• "en los años en los que venían disfrutando de su nueva posición de privilegio, se habían vuelto aún más petulantes y educaban a sus hijos para ejercer la tiranía sobre los demás sin ninguna clase de miramiento" about the Jin become more arrogant since they have a privileged position (chief cultivator)
• Wei Wuxian didn’t CHOOSE to intervene, girl started crying and that made little apple run towards Jin Ling
• The Wei Wuxian figures out mxy is jgs’s son, again with stuff that I’m not sure Wei Wuxian could know?
• Jgs married a controlling woman from good family, was afraid of her but still screwed around. Many illegitimate children. Jgy only recognized one ilegitimate child.
• Story is jgs wanted to prove he was virile despite his age (it says later he was not that old but was in his prime, wtf), has orgy, died.
• After Jiang Cheng, JGS was the other main actor in the siege
• "Your mother gave birth to you but didn’t teach you manners"
• Ok, it seems to me that if Wei Wuxian was in full control of his faculties, it wasn’t THAT hard to think “hmm… a young Jin boy, maybe he’s Jiang Yanli’s” especially since it’s stated that he and Jiang Cheng look like they could be brothers. How did you miss the family resemblance, Wei Wuxian?
• Suihua vaguely familiar
• Kind of feels like Wei Wuxian doesn't really remember Jiang Yanli till he gets slapped in the face with the memory
• Jin Ling very agile
• Wei Wuxian TAKES SUIHUA, still doesn’t recognize it
• Using dark arts (what is this in chinese) because your spirit is too weak for cultivation
• Stated: Wei Wuxian’s cultivation method was reviled because 对身体不好，but fast results, didn’t need tangent or spiritual strength. Jin Ling thinks mxy took shortcut AFTER being expelled
• Una voz grave y amenazadora “Su tío soy yo. Algo más que añadir a tus ultimas palabras?” 💜
• Wei Wuxian has super strong reaction
• Clarity bell doesn’t make sound as Jiang Cheng walks

• Era un hombre joven de ojos almendrados, intimidantemente atractivo. Su intensa mirada estaba llena de hostilidad; sus ojos se clavaban en Wei Wuxian como dos fríos relámpagos. Se detuvo a diez pasos de él, tan tenso como la cuerda de un arco a punto de disparar su flecha, altivo incluso en su pose.
• Ahora que estaban el uno junto al otro, podía apreciarse lo parecidos que eran: tío y sobrino podrían haber pasado por hermanos.
• Paper ghost burns in Jiang Cheng’s fist and screams
• Wei Wuxian supposed Jiang Cheng’s hate for him would have dissipated. really? Like... his sister died because of you and you think he would have gotten over it? This is the sort of thing that works to build interest and suspense on first read because you don't KNOW what happened in the past, but on reread you're like 'seriously, dude?'
• Ok, if Lan Wangji only realized mxy was Wei Wuxian when he played wangxian.mp3… why is he interfering in the fight between jin ling and a possible demonic cultivator, when there is a clan leader clearly overseeing the whole thing?? OK ok, probably LJY and LSZ told him MXY helped out. Still, I keep thinking of what he does in Manta's Jiang sibs AU.
• He just comes off so fucking aggressive and confrontational.. and yeah, every time I read about him using the silencing spell on Jin Ling, I dislike him more. Talk about escalating.
• Jin Ling 15
• 400 nets cost a fortune but ymj can assume the loss
• Jiang Cheng can’t stand losing face
• Narrowing eyes and caressing zidian on right hand = dangerous
• Can't be impulsive like Jin Ling, a clean leader has to consider other things
• The fall of qhn
• Jin and Lan close ties
• Jiang Cheng leads lone ymj isolated from the other 2
• Won’t confront Lan Wangji because he has Lan Xichen’s backing. Sorry, I seem to be doing this reading while chugging haterade for Lan Wangji 🤣
• Hasta que no estuviera seguro de poder salir victorioso, no iba no a plantearse atacar a Lan Wangji 江澄最无法容忍的就是落于下风，没有十成把握，他不考虑和蓝忘机动手
• Sometimes I see people interpret Jiang Cheng and jgy’s relationship as more cooperative than I think it is. I think their cooperation and relationship starts and ends with Jin Ling
• "Lan Wangji parecía decidido a interferir en aquel asunto y a él no le convenía seguir interpretando el papel de villano. Se la guardaría para la próxima." vs “He would simply have to remember this, for the time being.” Spanish sounds much bitchier 😆
• Su interés por la educación de los jóvenes de clanes ajenos es loable. Technically not what he said: 能管到别家小辈的头上，也是不容易。I would have said “No es fácil disciplinar a los jóvenes de otros clanes.”
• Sonrio con apatía “no es necesario” vs sneered in english 冷笑道 in chinese
• Ljy is fussy about cleanliness because he’s a lan
• Jin Ling seems very agnostic, with all his doubts 🤣
• Minor clans came in after Jin Ling, lans were there
• LSZ: “Aquel rostro le resultó extrañamente familiar, como si ya lo hubiera visto en alguna parte, pero ¿dónde podría haber sido?” Huh, guess this is where that whole thing comes from in cql? Is this ever adressed??
• “bolsa del cosmos” 乾坤袋 bag of heaven and earth (Wei Wuxian found it after the stream)
• Ljy pales and says Lan Wangji will really punish them this time
• Wei Wuxian disparages lan teachings. LSZ and LJY haven’t thought about the cost of a wedding because they’ve never had to worry about mundane things like money
• Gorier than I remembered. Goddess eating someone’s entrails.
• Wei Wuxian: why do you just believe everything the yiling patriarch said, he made lots of mistakes!
• Jin Ling wants to prove himself. Shoots 3 arrows at once. Doesn’t miss any shots.
• Says Wei Wuxian wouldn’t have used the flute if he had any other choice. And yet he was desecrating graves as he travelled from Mo manor, so I think it's more about the setting being very public than it is about any qualms about using demonic cultivation.
• Jin Ling very brave «Como no consiga cortarle la cabeza a la primera, moriré en el intento... ¡Pero que pase lo que tenga que pasar!».
• Wen Ning has delicate features
• Fierce corpses are confused and don’t have self consciousness
• “Siempre había sido capaz de pensar por sí mismo” inaccurate translation, checked source
• A pearl inside the goddess statue = the consumed souls condensed. If handled carefully, the more recent souls could be restored
• Lan Wangji grabs Wei Wuxian’s arm so hard it almost breaks. Romance! 😬
• I realize it is a valid translation choice but hate that they’re having Jiang Cheng call Jiang Cheng “Ling!” instead of “A-ling!” (And I hate all the other times they’ve done this with other characters)
• Jiang Cheng rushes in, sees Jin Ling is okay, so he starts yelling at him, and Jin Ling yells right back. Jin Ling has a point, Jiang Cheng knows it but won’t back down so he starts talking shit to the other cultivators 😂
• "Fria y electrizante mirada | esbozando una leve sonrisa, volvió a acariciar su anillo con la mano izquierda.—Vaya, vaya... Así que has vuelto - susurró." Zidian as ring on right hand, caresses it, then is holding zidian as whip on left hand. zidian very thin, like very quick lightning
• Guy that tells Jiang Cheng about mxy is some rando, not one of his own disciples
• Jiang-zongzhu, you don’t pay attention to this sort of thing, but…
• Jiang Cheng hated to lose in even trivial matters
