It says there were several confusing and incoherent paragraphs and Wei Wuxian put two and two together. As such I don’t think we can say “in his diary mxy admits he harassed someone from llj”. That is the conclusion Wei Wuxian drew. It isn’t fact. We don’t know what mxy wrote.

It seems really weird for this to come from a diary (too much in MXY's head), it reads like third person omniscient talking about MXY, not like what you'd read ina diary where someone writes about himself. So I have to conclude MXTX didn't really think about what MXY would write or in what manner, she just used it as an excuse for exposition

Ok, the explanation of what mzy did that got him killed. The passage is introduced as Wei Wuxian and the Lan juniors setting the demon summoning flag and deducing what happened. But then, like with the diary, it launches into what reads like a third person omniscient description of events. Some of the things could be reasonably deduced, but some really can’t, including what mzy did before stealing the flag, what he was thinking , that stealing cultivation materials had become an addiction, etc. And that is one of the reasons this book makes me a little insane: is this fact or what Wei Wuxian thinks? When does one become the other? Same problem as MXY’s diary.
Outright stated: the Mo family asks for help because of fierce corpses. There was no indication of something worse until MZY turned up dead.
Wei Wuxian says mzy is at least 17. Not that this helps with building a chronology since all we know is he was a child when mxy was 14.
