It has been a long long time since a show has grabbed my attention the way Sherlock has, to the point that I’ve been completely neglecting, well, pretty much anything that is not Sherlock related. So I thought I’d just rec links related to this awesome little show that has pretty much just eaten my brain the past few weeks.

Fuck Yeah Sherlock – Tumblr blog! Awesome for picspams, videos, etc.
SherlockBBC – extremely active, very awesome LJ comm for Sherlock. Obviously, there’s a ton of fanfic (slash, gen, cracky crossovers, what have you), but it’s also a great place for actual discussion and meta.
CumberbatchFans – if in the past 3 or 4 weeks you have developed, like I have, the most ridiculous crush on Benedict Cumberbatch, then check out this comm.

(I should maybe mention that as far as I’m concerned, Sherlock is canonically asexual. This doesn’t mean I can’t enjoy slash, though).

The Thermodynamis series – by [ljuser]entangled_now[/ljuser]. This series is hands down my favorite Sherlock fic(s). It’s cute in exactly the way Sherlock fic should be cute: with a bit of awkwardness, matter of fact, very amusing; and also sexy in exactly the way Sherlock should be sexy, which includes acknowledges the fact that he’s most likely asexual, and works organically with that, and it ends up being integral to how delicious the whole thing is.

The Second Law of Thermodynamics – In which there’s no heating and there’s a dead owl in Sherlock’s bed.
The Art of Negotiation – In which an experiment has to be repeatable for the results to be valid.
The Definition of Insanity – In which John tries to restore some semblance of order.
The Rules – In which there are rules, and John breaks them.

This is an extremely belated post about A Study In Pink, which means that it’s actually more about the episode in the context to the rest of the series.

Really, if you start thinking about the fact that there will be more Sherlock in the future, then it’s easy to guess that eventually we’ll look back on these episodes and that primarily all three, not just the first one, are about how Sherlock and John’s very unique relationship began and started to develop. It’s actually so obvious that it might not even merit mentioning, except for how in the course of just three it begins, grows, changes, starts to crack around the edges, and ultimately deepens so much.

The one where Wilson takes Cuddy to a play

I turned the TV on and found a rerun of House on. It’s the episode with the dad that used “male enhancement” cream and the hormones wrecked havoc on his kids.

More importantly (to me), it’s the episode where House gives Wilson theater tickets that a patient gave him, Wilson takes Cuddy to said play, and when House finds out he coms to the conclusion that Wilson is trying to “see Cuddy naked”. Wilson decides to mess with House. House decides to mess with Wilson. Hilarity ensues! \:D/

My point being… this series used to be so good.

Watching Doctor Who

So, I kind of decided yesterday to watch the first Doctor Who ep with Matt Smith… and since then I have watched the first eight episodes of the season. :D;;

So basically, I haven’t really watched Doctor Who before, other than the first few Eccleston episodes, which I liked, but then I got distracted. And since, I’ve never goten around to watching because the thought of all that catch up is daunting.

But since I loved Sherlock so much, I thought, oh well, why not just watch starting with Moffat’s Doctor Who? So if I like, I can just go back later.

(Hmmm… this kind of reminds me of how I fell down the slippery slope of toku fandom… oh, I’ll just watch Decade… and maybe finish Kabuto while I’m at it, and 6 months later I’ve watched most of the Heisei Riders and Kamen Rider has totally eaten my brain).

Anyway, love the Doctor himself. Amy is awesome. Rory is, somewhat to my surprise, since I didn’t expect it from the first ep, awesome himself. The time travel aspect of the story is fun and intriguing and nicely complicated… my favorite example of it so far is the Doctor’s story with River. The idea of two people who “keep meeting in the wrong order”, so that their story is in her past but in his future, is really interesting and thought provoking (and of course, at some point this will reverse, and the story will be in his past and her future… it’s kind of a never-ending loop, if you think about it).

And those angels where the creepiest, scariest thing I’ve seen in quite awhile.

First series/season of Sherlock finished Sunday (and Moffat confirmed there will be more on an interview today, which you can watch here). I actually watched the final episode Sunday night and loved it, in some ways more than the first ep. They serve different purposes is the thing.

It was too late to make a post then, and then yesterday I realized I never actually posted specifically about the episodes themselves, just in general about how sparkly and awesome it is. So what I’m going to do is rewatch all three episodes (says she who has already rewatched ep 1 three times and ep 3 once)! And then I’m going to post about each episode. :D/

Hey, who knows when there will be more Sherlock, I have to stretch the high as long as I can.

White Collar 2×04: By The Book

I actually watched this a couple of nights ago, but hadn’t goten around to posting about it. My bad.

In this episode, Peter and Neal (and Peter-and-Neal) take a backseat to let Mozzie shine for an episode. Which is great, because Willie Garson is just amazing as Mozzie, and he’s consistently the most quoteable character on the show (and the first scene culminates in one such quote :D).
